Artist collaborations let a creator add collaborator credit to an artwork on SuperRare and propose a sale split for future marketplace actions.
This article is for creators sending collaboration requests and artists receiving them.
Before You Start
The artwork must already be minted before you can invite a collaborator.
You must be connected with the wallet that can manage the artwork.
You can invite one collaborator per artwork.
You cannot invite yourself as a collaborator.
The optional split must be a whole number from 0 to 100.
Collaboration credit is a SuperRare display feature. It does not change NFT ownership, token metadata, creator records, or royalty registry settings.
How It Works
A creator can invite another artist from the artwork page. If the invited artist accepts, SuperRare can show collaborator credit on the artwork page and on the collaborator’s profile.
The collaboration itself is not an on-chain change. The only on-chain connection is sale splits: if a seller uses the proposed split when listing, auctioning, or accepting an offer, those sale split recipients and percentages are submitted as part of that marketplace transaction.
Invite A Collaborator
Open the minted artwork page.
Open the artwork manage menu.
Select Invite collaborator.
Enter the collaborator’s username or wallet address.
Optional: enter a proposed Split %.
Select Send request.
The collaborator receives the request in Dashboard > Collaborations.
Accept Or Decline A Request
Go to Dashboard > Collaborations.
Find the request under Requests.
Select Accept to join the collaboration, or Decline to reject it.
Accepted collaborations move to the Accepted section. You can use Hide or Show to control whether the collaboration appears on your profile.
How Sale Splits Work
The Split % is a proposed revenue share. If the collaboration is accepted, SuperRare can pre-fill that collaborator split when the seller lists the artwork, starts an auction, or accepts an offer.
You can still review and edit the split before submitting the marketplace transaction. The proposed split is not locked when the invitation is sent or accepted.
Royalty Registry And Secondary Sales
Artist collaborations do not currently register collaborators as royalty recipients for secondary-sale royalty registries.
Royalty recipient settings for collections are managed separately. Accepting a collaboration does not update those settings and does not guarantee secondary-sale royalties for the collaborator.
Troubleshooting
Issue | What To Try |
You do not see Invite collaborator | Confirm the artwork is already minted and you are connected with the creator wallet that can manage it. |
The collaborator cannot be found | Check the username or enter a valid wallet address. |
The split is not accepted | Enter a whole number from 0 to 100, or leave the field blank. |
A request already exists | Cancel the pending request before sending another one. |
A collaborator was already accepted | Only one collaborator can be accepted for each artwork. |
The collaborator expected an on-chain credit change | Explain that collaboration credit is a SuperRare display feature. NFT ownership, metadata, creator records, and royalty registry settings do not change. |
The split does not appear as expected | Review the sale split before submitting the listing, auction, or accepted-offer transaction. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I invite a collaborator before minting?
No. The artwork must already be minted before a collaborator can be invited.
Can I invite more than one collaborator?
Not currently. Each artwork can have one pending or accepted collaborator.
Does accepting a collaboration change the NFT on-chain?
No. Accepting a collaboration updates SuperRare display credit only. The on-chain connection happens only if sale split recipients and percentages are submitted in a marketplace sale transaction.
Can I change the proposed split later?
Yes. The split is a proposal and can be adjusted when listing the artwork, starting an auction, or accepting an offer.
Does accepting a collaboration guarantee secondary-sale royalties?
No. Accepting a collaboration does not update royalty registry settings for secondary sales.
Can I hide an accepted collaboration from my profile?
Yes. Go to Dashboard > Collaborations and use Hide or Show on the accepted collaboration.
