Create a Digital Editions (ERC-1155)

How creators set up a limited-run ERC-1155 digital edition on SuperRare, including optional primary sale setup.

Digital editions let approved creators mint a limited run of the same artwork on SuperRare. Each digital edition is one artwork with a fixed maximum supply, and collectors can own one or more copies.

This guide is for creators setting up a digital edition.

Before You Start

  • Edition details are not editable on-chain after creation, so review everything carefully before submitting.

How It Works

A digital edition uses the ERC-1155 token standard. It includes one artwork token with a maximum supply that caps how many copies can exist.

When you create a digital edition, SuperRare uploads your artwork and metadata, uses your selected ERC-1155 collection, mints the edition token on Ethereum mainnet, and optionally configures a primary sale so collectors can mint from the artwork page.

After creation, you are taken to the edition’s artwork page. If indexing is still in progress, you may briefly see a Digital edition created message while the page loads.

Create a Digital Edition

  1. Go to Sell.

  2. Under Digital, select Sell digital editions.

  3. Select Choose collection.

  4. Choose an existing ERC-1155 collection you control, or create a new ERC-1155 collection.

  5. If your wallet is not on Ethereum mainnet, switch to Ethereum mainnet when prompted.

  6. Upload your artwork file.

  7. Wait for upload and media processing to finish.

  8. Complete all required edition details: Artwork Title, Description, Tags, and Max Supply.

  9. Review your information carefully.

  10. Accept the mint terms when prompted.

  11. Select Create digital edition.

  12. Approve the required wallet transactions.

Supported artwork file types include PNG, JPEG, GIF, MP4, MOV, HTML, GLB, and WebM. The maximum file size is 250MB.

Some formats may require a thumbnail. Follow any on-screen prompts if a thumbnail is needed.

Add a Primary Sale

You can mint the token now and sell later, or set up a primary sale during creation.

NOTE: We highly recommend setting this up initially as we currently do not have a way to retroactively add the primary sale through the UI.

  1. Select Add a primary sale for this token.

  2. Complete the primary sale details: Price, Currency, Max Per Transaction, optional Start Time, and optional Splits.

  3. To remove the sale before submitting, select Remove.

Supported primary sale currencies are ETH, RARE, and USDC.

What Happens Next

When creation succeeds, you are redirected to the edition’s artwork detail page. You can share the page, review Detailsand Activity, and see edition-specific information such as Token Standard: ERC-1155 and Total Supply.

Your edition appears on SuperRare once indexing completes.

If a primary sale is configured and live, collectors can mint from the artwork page.

If primary sale setup fails after the token is minted, you can use Retry primary sale from the create flow.
