$RARE Tipping FAQ

With $RARE, you can now tip artworks, curatorial musings, or collectors in reply casts on Farcaster.

Participation is subject to the SuperRare terms of service and community guidelines.

How do I get started?

First, you'll need to have both a SuperRare account and a Farcaster account. You'll want to make sure they share the same ETH wallet address.

If you already have accounts on both SuperRare and Farcaster but the addresses are different, you can add your SuperRare account's wallet address to your Farcaster account. Go to your profile settings, open the "verified addresses" tab, and add the SuperRare address.

How do I become eligible to participate in the tipping program?

To be eligible for the tipping program, you need either one of two things:

  • Have transacted on SuperRare more recently than August 2021

  • OR at least 2,500 RARE held in your wallet

If at least one of these things is true, then you are eligible to earn an allowance! (To learn how to earn allowance, see below).

Once I’m eligible, how do I earn a tipping allowance?

Allowances are calculated according to two main factors:

  1. Your SuperRare activity over the past 6 months (USD volume on a log scale). Recent transactions (last 30 days) are weighted more heavily.

  2. Your ranking in the top 500 /superrare channel users according to OpenRank

There are also ways you boost your allowance:

  1. Receive tips from top-ranked users in the past 5 days (if you’re between 501-2,000 in Openrank)

  2. Participate in special activations (coming soon!)

Important Notes

  • Purchased $RARE does not count towards your allowance. Tips on Farcaster can only be given from the allowance you are given. Check your allowance here.

  • Unused allowances will not carry over to the next day.

  • For a deeper dive on how allowances are calculated, see this section below

How does Openrank work? How can I find my channel ranking?

OpenRank is a transparent and open-source channel ranking algorithm that assigns a value rank to all members of a Farcaster channel. In order to earn allowance from /superrare channel activity, you need to either be in the top 500-ranked channel members, or ranked 501-2,000 and have received tips from a top-ranked member in the past 5 days.

How do I Give a Tip?

To tip, reply to casts on Farcaster with "[amount] $RARE" (e.g., 5 $RARE), as shown in the gif below.

  • You must have a SuperRare account with the same wallet linked to Farcaster

  • Allowance points are weighted towards casts in /SuperRare, but you can give a tip in any channel

  • Tip recipients get 95% of the tips they receive, while tippers keep 5% of the tip

  • Tipping is not case sensitive, so e.g. "50 $rare" also works.

How do I receive and claim my tips?

Qualifications for claiming:

  • The season you'd like to claim for must reach its conclusion.

  • Verify that your SuperRare account's ETH address is linked to your Farcaster account.

  • You MUST MEET AT LEAST ONE of the following criteria:

    • You have minted, bought, or bid on at least one artwork on SuperRare since the genesis $RARE airdrop on 8/7/2021.

    • You have at least 2,500 $RARE held in your wallet.

When can I claim my tips?

$RARE tipping season 1 ends on July 30th. Tipping actions taken after this date will count towards the next season. The ability to claim your $RARE will be made available on August 1st and will remain open until October 31st, providing a 3-month claim window.

What happens if I have more than one Ethereum address connected to my Farcaster account?

There are 2 scenarios we handle:

  1. Only ONE of the addresses has a SuperRare account. In this case, all tips sent to any of the associated addresses will be aggregated into the single address that has the SuperRare account.

  2. MULTIPLE addresses have SuperRare accounts. In this case, some or all of your received tips might have been split between those addresses. Make sure to connect each addresses wallet to assure you've claimed all earned tips.

I participated in tipping, but I don't see any $RARE on my claim page.

If you have multiple SuperRare accounts and don't see $RARE on your claim page, make sure to check on both accounts. If you don't have multiple accounts and still don't see any $RARE, you may have been disqualified for farming (bots, self tipping, $1 tips etc)

If you believe you are supposed to have $RARE on your claim page but don't, you can reach out to us via this Season 1 claim support form, and we'll review.

How exactly are allowances calculated?

1. The amount of points earnable per day by each user is equal to the amount of $RARE earnable per day. 60% of these points are earnable via USD spent on SR, and 40% into based on your Warpcast /superrare channel OpenRank ranking.

2. Each user is given a USD amount score, calculated by adding up the value of all sales and purchases on SR over the last 183 days. USD earned in the last 30 days will count in full, whereas only half of the USD earned 31 to 183 days will contribute to your score.

3. Each user is then given a /superrare channel rank score, calculated by creating a sorted list of all eligible users that either A.) has an OpenRank ranking <= 500, or B.) has an OpenRank ranking of 501 to 2000 and has received 1 or more tips from a user w/ a ranking <= 500 in the last 5 days. Scores are then allocated such that, given a list of 100 users, the top ranked user will receive a score of 100 and the bottom ranked user a score of 1.

4. Points for the USD amount score are allocated by placing all users with a score > 0 into a sorted list and placing them on a logarithmic scale so that the user with the highest score will receive the highest earnable amount and the user with the lowest score will receive just above 0. The use of a logarithmic scale assures that Whales won't end up with all of the points.

5. Points for the channel rank score are allocated by placing the list of sorted users on a exponential scale and distributing points in the same fashion used for USD. Use of an exponential scale assures that, as your rank increases, so to will your points allocation in an exponential fashion.
