General

Q: What will happen to the Spaces program?

A: After careful consideration, SR Labs has made the tough decision to recommend suspending the Spaces program on Oct 31st 2024. Please read and give feedback on the proposal here.

For Artists

Q: Will I still be able to mint new artworks on SuperRare?

A: Yes, artists will be added to the SuperRare allowlist and can create new Series or import sovereign contracts from platforms like Manifold and Transient, giving more control over your work going forward. The SUPR V2 contract from 2019 will be phased out and replaced by artist-owned contracts, so new creators are not currently being added to it.

Q: What will happen to the artwork minted via Space contracts?

A: Existing artworks minted in Space contracts will remain indexed on SuperRare, visible on the user profile of the artist and whoever currently holds the NFT (i.e., the Space operator’s profile, if not yet sold, or the collector if the work has been collected.) This ensures your artwork will still be discoverable and available to collectors going forward.

Q: Can I still work with Space operators and curators on future projects?

A: Yes, even though the Spaces UI will be sunset, Space operators and other curators can still collaborate with artists via Splits, a more lightweight and flexible model.

For Space Operators

Q: What will happen to the Spaces UI?

A: If the proposal passes, the Spaces UI will be deprecated on Oct. 31st, 2024. However, the underlying smart contracts will remain active, allowing developers, curators, and artists to permissionlessly create new interfaces in the future.

Q: Will the Space contracts be deactivated?

A: No, the Space contracts remain unchanged. This means you or anyone in the community can build bespoke frontends or tools to extend the Spaces concept in new and innovative ways.

Q: Can I continue supporting artists for a split?

A: Yes, via Splits, a new feature that allows any curator, promoter, or marketer to receive an agreed upon portion of an artwork’s sale. This opens up new, flexible opportunities for collaboration between artists and curators without the need for separate Spaces.

Q: Is there an opportunity to rebuild Spaces as a community initiative?
A: Yes, there is potential for a developer grant to support building a refreshed version of Spaces as a third-party or community project. We're open to discussing this further if there's strong interest and the right fit.

For Collectors

Q: Will existing artworks from Spaces still be available on SuperRare?

A: Yes, all artworks minted in Space contracts will continue to be indexed and available for viewing and collecting on SuperRare. Nothing will change with your existing collection.
